weighing in

Filed under: commentary, politics - rosanne @ 12:08 pm

all of this talk about sarah palin’s family and personal life and ignorance and rashness are all well and good. what hasnt happened yet, and what i think is so crucial, is that none of the revelations/jabs have yet made the leap showing that these character flaws are directly related to her not being a good VP candidate. its that extra leap that they are expecting people to make but really it just makes the left look like finger-pointers. the left needs to make arguments that are irrefutable and not based on emotions. clearly people respond positively to sarah palin’s personality. so instead of attacking her personality, maybe it would be better to attack the effects her personality has had on her politics.

maybe i just havent seen it

im just saying.

  1. Except that no one in the progressive media or blogosphere is making these arguments about her personal life. It’s all about her lack of experience, inability to know about things like the Bush Doctrine, and dangerously right-wing views.

  2. yes, youre right actually and ive been thinking since i put this up that i need to come back to it and just havent figured it out yet. the arguments are just still all too emotional. it’s not that i dont agree with them, but i keep looking at things and trying to figure out how people can write about it and actually get through the thick heads to change people’s views on palin.

what ive been reading isnt persuasive, i guess is what i mean. i feel like we’re all talking to each other and not to the people who really need to be convinced that she’s not the “straight-shooter” or “reformer” or the other things the campaign is branding her as.

i suppose its because i have limited range on these things and i should probably stick to what i know rather than what i think i know!

  3. I drove home a carload of military men right after she was selected. What amazed me…the very things these men would (and some have) vilified women for are trumped by the NRA (and looks). Not commenting myself on her personal life, but I think it’s underestimated just how huge that is to a voting block. Puts new definition to the term shotgun wedding. ;)

It’s so crazy now, as most the political arguing is about meta-arguments. This blogger/TV spokesperson/pastor said this, so that. It’s like listening to two kids in the back seat who are fighting about how they’re fighting and couldn’t tell you why they started.
